Back of Museum
The variety of exterior entrances to the back building include service entrances at the bottom of the tall north-east corner and more formal office and auditorium entrances along its upper, west side. An open-air roof patio is used for special events. This design makes it possible to hold events or rent the auditorium, adjoining hall and facilities, without access to the Ara Pacis. The change with the largest public impact was the addition of a lower story, barely visible from outside, used for temporary exhibitions of contemporary art. Although most of these have no direct relatonship to the Ara Pacis, they have been highly popular, transforming to some extent the nature of the museum.
