Wilderness First Responder Program
Every year we offer a 80+ hour medical certification, the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Course for students to gain valuable medical skills.
This years course is offered 1/20/25-1/24/25 during Paidea Week at Reed College Campus. The course is taught through Cascade Wilderness Medicine in conjunction with Wilderness Medical Training Center.
Course format is Hybrid consisting of 2-parts. First part of the course is online study over break, the second part with successful passing of part 1 will be a 5-day inperson session to practice skills learned.
The practical inperson session is intensive and should be taken seriously. No other activities can be planned during this 5 day session, as you will be eating, sleeping and dreaming of WFR scenarios. Work consists of indoor and outdoor sessions, working in groups to learn content. Rain, snow, ice and other variable conditions will challenge you to perform in various conditions.
This program is intense, but it offers lifelong skill sets to make you a better prepared individual for outdoor travel.
