Gray Fund
The Gray Fund has been a Reed tradition since 1992. Established by generous benefactor Betty Gray, the fund's purpose is, in her words,
"to assure that Reed College will have stimulating cultural, social, and recreational programs of excellent quality on a regular and planned basis which will interest students, faculty, and staff and which will involve these three groups together in activities outside the classroom which complement the college's academic program."
Many Gray Fund activities are outdoors focused, providing yet another way for you to get off campus and explore for free. Options range from an afternoon hike to a weeklong camping trip in the desert. Submit trip ideas to the Gray Fund recreation interns, and learn more about the program at the Gray Fund website.
Some trips we did in the prior years so you can get an idea of the work we do on a weekly basis include:
- Sky Diving
- Salmon Fishing
- Hot Air Balloon Rides
- Curling
- Go-Kart Racing
- Fall Break Hike to Catalina Island
- Spring Break Trip to Orcas Island
- Sooo... much more...
Sign up for trips via an online lottery on a weekly basis. We choose names via random number generator then it is up to you to confirm and get ready for the trip. Usually, we advertise the week prior to the trip leaves. We pull names on Tuesday prior to the weekend trip, then we finalize our roster and get ready for you to have and adventure on the weekend.
