Language Lab
The Language Lab at Reed is designed to supplement students’ study of Russian by encouraging regular aural contact with the language as it is spoken. Drills increase students’ willingness to perform in class and improve speaking ability while implanting proper cadence in student’s mind. Class text supplements make up the core of language lab involvement for students but the lab is also useful for the opportunity it provides instructors to record themselves speaking for student’s listening benefit. This is particularly important when it comes time to memorize poetry for the department’s bi-annual Russian poetry and dinner evenings (remember: in Russia, it is always time to memorize poetry).
The Language Lab is located in the library in the IMC (Instructional Media Center). Its international collection of recorded music and film offers easy access to visual and auditory arts, with an impressive selection of Russian cinema.
