Chris Toutain Appointed Martha A. Darling Dean of Students
Reed's former title IX and 504 coordinator will support student success in his new role.
Please welcome Chris Toutain, Ph.D. (he/him/his), our new Martha A. Darling Dean of Students. Toutain started in his role on August 1, just in time to welcome new students and families to campus for orientation and residential move-in later this month.
Toutain has been with the college since July 2020 serving as the title IX and 504 coordinator, and brings more than 12 years of experience in student affairs, including residence life and student conduct administration. He has served in multiple support-focused roles, including housing at Willamette University and the Dean of Students Office at Chapman University.
In these roles, Toutain worked to improve and create comprehensive student support systems policies, and practices. His contributions to Reed over the last three years include leading revisions to the college’s Title IX and Discriminatory Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Policy (DHSM) in response to federal regulations. To increase transparency, he also updated student accommodations grievance procedures. In each of his endeavors, Toutain brings an institutional commitment to prioritizing care, individualized support, and equitable educational access.
We look forward to witnessing the positive impact of Toutain’s leadership and are excited for the future of the Reed community.
