The T-Test Family
There are 3 types of t-tests: single sample, independent means, and dependent means. Use a single sample t-test if you want to compare your sample to a specific number, like the population mean or the scale midpoint. Use an independent means t-test if you want to compare two groups whose data were collected in a between-subjects design. Use a dependent means t-test if you want to compare two groups whose data were collected in a within-subjects design. (This test is also known as a paired t-test.)
