Subject: COVID-19 planning and response

March 2, 2020

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

Last week it was announced that the college established a COVID-19 task force charged with implementing recommendations made by government and public health authorities, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Oregon Health Authority, and Multnomah County Health, and responding to situations that may be unique to Reed. Leading this task force are VP for Student Life Mike Brody and VP for College Relations Hugh Porter.

Informed by the good work going on across campus, the task force will recommend responses to this evolving situation in ways that prioritize the health and well-being of community members while endeavoring to fulfill our responsibilities to the academic program and overall campus experience. Our continued efforts to address this outbreak will benefit from the incredible dedication, ingenuity, and collaborative work that I see demonstrated every day on campus.

Should you have a question for the task force, please email coronavirusquestions@reed.edu. The task force is currently working through answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ) related to Reed’s COVID-19 planning and response. We expect an FAQ to be shared with the community before the end of this week.

Ongoing updates related to COVID-19 planning and response will be shared with the Reed community as necessary via Reed’s campus news email and will also be added to the Reed web page dedicated to information on the coronavirus.

I urge everyone to take the recommended precautions, which are truly the most important steps we as individuals can take to prevent the spread of respiratory diseases.

Wishing the entire community health and wellness.

Audrey
