We wanted to provide an update regarding the federal court's recent decision to vacate the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) threshold changes originally scheduled for July 1, 2024 and January 1, 2025. This decision means those changes are no longer required under federal law.
Here’s what this means for employees at the college:
The changes implemented by the college in July 2024 will remain in effect for positions that were evaluated based on both duty requirements and salary thresholds of the FLSA. These changes were implemented proactively and will remain in place, even though the new federal thresholds are no longer moving forward.
A small number of positions at the college met the duties requirements of the FLSA but were anticipated to fall short of the now-vacated salary thresholds scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2025. Because the salary thresholds will not take effect, these positions will maintain their current exemption status. The salaries for these positions will continue to meet or exceed the current federal salary threshold of $35,568 per year, as established in July 2024.
We understand that changing regulations may raise questions about their impact on our roles. The HR team closely monitors the implications of federal and state rulings and will ensure the college remains compliant with all applicable laws and regulations as they are finalized.
