Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Reed?

Our address is 3203 SE Woodstock Blvd, though the parking lot is not located at this address - see Where should I park? for directions.  You can drive and park, take a Lyft or Uber (tell them to drop you at Eliot Circle), or take the bus. There are three bus lines that have stops near or at Reed.  The 19 will run up Woodstock Blvd and has a stop on SE 32nd Ave & Woodstock. The 75 also stops near Reed at SE Woodstock & Cesar Chavez Blvd. The 10 is the quickest way to get to Reed from downtown portland, though it does not run on the weekend.  It runs up SE Steele St. and can drop you off near the North parking lot.

Where should I park?

Reed has three main parking lots - North, East, and West.  We advise that you park in the North parking lot off of SE Steele St, between SE 33rd Ave and SE 33Pl.

How should I find Vollum lounge?

Vollum lounge is in building 39 on the campus map.  It is accessible from Eliot circle, between the library and Eliot Hall.  There is an accessible entrance to the left of the main entrance. The hall is on the westernmost side of the building.

How do I connect to the internet?

ReedXenia is an open network for guests.  Members outside of the Reed community should select “Register as Guest.”  You will be prompted to enter a name and email address or phone number. You may then using the email address as the username and the numerical code sent to you as the password.  Your browser will automatically redirect you to the Reed homepage. (for more detailed instructions), see the longer instructions in your registration folder).

Where should I eat lunch?

Commons is the closest place for lunch and is in the Grey Campus Center. While you can walk up the hill to Woodstock to find other food options, we highly recommend you eat lunch at Commons on Friday in order to be back in time for our afternoon session. Their hours are Fri 7:30AM-10PM and Sat 10AM-2PM, 5PM-7PM.

Where can I get coffee?

We will have coffee at the conference, but some people have additional needs! Commons has drip coffee available,  but we do have two coffee shops on campus! Paradox is next to the Student Union and is open until 10PM on Friday & Saturday.  Nu Paradox, across from the ETC near the library, closes at 5PM on Friday for the weekend. First Cup and Papaccino’s are right up the road on Woodstock - and Papaccino’s is open until 10PM every day!

How do I get to the Friday night event at Lucky Labrador Brew Pub?

https://luckylab.com/hawthorne-brew-pub/.

This is not a hosted event, but Lucky Lab is a casual place where we can all congregate, and it serves affordable food and drinks. It’s located at 915 SE Hawthorne Avenue.  You can drive (about 10 minutes), catch a ride with another conference attendee, or take a Lyft or Uber. To go by bus, the 75 bus line picks up roughly every 15-20 minutes from SE Woodstock and Ceasar Chavez Blvd and can drop you directly onto Hawthorne, and transfer to the 14 on Hawthorne towards Portland City Center.  There is a stop on SE Madison & 11th, then a 3-block walk to the pub! Or, you can take the 19 from SE Woodstock & 32nd toward Portland City Center, get off at SE Powell & Milwaukie, walk ~5 minutes to SE Division &12th and take the 4 towards St. Johns, get off at SE 7th & Clay, and walk about three blocks to the pub.

What do I need to know if I’m presenting?

We expect most people will present from their own laptops, but we will have a backup laptop on hand, so just let us know Friday morning what equipment you may need. We will have common adaptors on hand, but feel free to bring your own especially if it’s non-common. We also recommend having your presentation loaded on a flash drive or on the cloud as a backup.
