Penn State CLS Lab Manager Position

The Center for Language Science (CLS) at Penn State seeks candidates for the position of Lab Manager/Research Assistant. The CLS (http://cls.psu.edu/) is an interdisciplinary group of linguists, psycholinguists, applied linguists, speech-language pathologists, speech scientists, and cognitive neuroscientists who share an interest in language acquisition and bilingualism. CLS researchers employ a variety of methods including behavioral measures, eye tracking, electrophysiological methods (EEG/ERP), and fMRI. Responsibilities for this position include assisting with CLS faculty research, managing the laboratory operations (including equipment maintenance and participant scheduling), providing technical support for the CLS’s PIRE (Partnerships in International Research and Education) program (https://pire.la.psu.edu/), and providing general support for the CLS, including assisting with outreach events and the colloquium series (https://cls.la.psu.edu/news-events/CLSSpeakerSeries). Skills and experience with some programs such as ELAN, E-prime, Ibex Farm, MATLAB, Praat, Python, and R, are desirable. Training and experience with at least one technical method (e.g. eye tracking, EEG/ERP, acoustic analysis in Praat) is required, and knowledge of statistics is also desirable. Additional training will be provided for technical methods, and also for the conduct of research with human participants.

Candidates should have strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects, and a strong curiosity and interest in language science research and methods. Knowledge of and experience working with languages other than English is also desirable but not required.  In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

The position requires an associate’s degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. The successful candidate will have had laboratory experience as an undergraduate, preferably with both behavioral and cognitive neuroscience methods.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV, and a listing of three names of references at the following address: https://psu.jobs/job/93596. The cover letter should include information about how the candidate’s research interests and experience align with the research being conducted at the CLS. For more information on CLS faculty projects, visit http://cls.psu.edu and click on the Research tab.

Penn State is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of its forms. Questions about the position can be sent to Dr. Frances Blanchette (fkb1@psu.edu). The appointment date will be as soon as March 31st, 2020 and no later than May 5th, 2020. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire, with possibility of re-funding.
