Files, folders, and links in Moodle

Use the File, Folder, and URL resources in Moodle to organize files on your Moodle page.

Files

To share files with students, turn edit mode on and then drag and drop files from your computer into any section on your Moodle page. Or, use the File resource in Moodle to select a file from your computer.

  • After selecting File from the Moodle activity and resource picker, add a title and optional description.
  • Add your file in the Select file area.
  • Edit any other settings you like, and then click the Save and display button to view your file.


For text files, MS Word documents are generally more accessible than PDFs. If you must use a PDF, please use the SensusAccess accessible document converter before you upload PDF files to your Moodle course page. 

We encourage you to use Reed e-reserves for any course readings. If you wish to point students to relevant e-reserves from elsewhere on your Moodle page, we have information about how to link to e-reserves.

Folders

If you have many files students need to download, organize them into a folder so students can download the entire folder rather than each file separately. After choosing the Folder resource from the activity and resource picker, add files in the Select files area. Be sure the check box to Show download folder button is checked.

URLs

You can add links anywhere using the Moodle text editor. However, if you want to highlight a particular external resource, such as a Google Drive folder, use the URL resource.
