Getting Equipment
If you have questions that aren't covered below, contact computer-purchase@reed.edu or 503-777-7253.
Students
Every student should have a laptop with a currently supported operating system, capable of running Microsoft Office (free for Reed students), modern web browsers, and Zoom. A majority of the Reed community chooses to use Apple computers, but Windows and Linux systems will also work.
Minimum and Recommended Specifications
The following Mac or Windows specifications should be sufficient for most students:
Minimum laptop specs:
- macOS 13 (Ventura) or later
- Windows 10
- 8GB RAM
- 256GB SSD
Recommended laptop specs:
- macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later
- Windows 11 or newer
- 16GB RAM
- 512GB SSD or greater
Additional accessories may be beneficial:
