As Associate Dean of Global Education and Director of International Programs in the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Alberto del Río Malo leads the college’s domestic and overseas study and exchange programs in 35+ countries for enrolled Reed students. He also oversees the International Faculty and Staff Exchange Programs and the Language Scholar Program, which brings eight international scholars to Reed through exchange relationships with partner universities and program affiliations worldwide.
Alberto has extensive experience of over two decades in working and teaching in the international higher education and intercultural exchange fields, designing and implementing study abroad programs (long/short/summer terms, mixed and direct enrollment, internships, and faculty-led programs) for students from 200+ US higher education institutions. He is a member of the Advisory Board and former President of APUNE/AAPS (Association of American Programs in Spain) and of the Academic Advisory Board of CUPA-Paris (The Center for University Programs Abroad).
Alberto holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures, a Diploma de Estudios Avanzados (DEA) in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature, and a Licenciatura in Hispanic Philology from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB). He has been a visiting professor of Spanish Language and Literature at Knox College (Galesburg, IL) and a professor of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the Universitat de Barcelona.
