The Anatomy of a Fall Screening with Catherine Witt
Come join the Film and Media Studies Program and Catherine Witt on Sunday, December 1st in Psych 105 to screen The Anatomy of a Fall. You can find the trailer for the film here. See you there!
The Essentials with Robert Ribera
The next film in The Essentials: Adaptation series for the year will be our first student pick: The Talented Mr. Ripley. We'll meet in BIO-19 on December 9th at 6pm. Take a little break from the last week of classes to watch a great film! We hope to see you there!
Patricia Highsmith's novels have been adapted for the screen since the very beginning of her career. Some of the best include Alfred Hitchcock's excellent Strangers on a Train, based on her debut novel, Wim Wenders', An American Friend, based on the third Tom Ripley novel, and Todd Haynes' Carol, based on Highsmith's somewhat autobiographical The Price of Salt. For our December screening, we'll watch The Talented Mr. Ripley. It's a novel so fascinating it's been adapted three times. René Clément's version, Purple Noon, is the first in 1960, and most recently, Steve Zaillian transformed the material into a high contrast black and white mini-series Ripley. We'll watch Anthony Minghella's 1999 adaptation, starring Matt Damon as Ripley, Jude Law as Dickie, Gwyneth Paltrow as Marge, and the great Philip Seymour Hoffman as Freddie Miles.
This screening is purely for academic purposes.
