Assistive Technology
Reed offers a number of assistive technology options to support the educational endeavors of individuals with qualifying disabilities. We recognize that some students may request resources that are not covered by the options on this list. Students are welcome to contact us at any time to discuss additional options.
Reed’s campus is Macintosh-based and current assistive technology offerings are designed for Macintosh computers. For more information, please visit the Apple OS X Accessibility web page. We are happy to talk with students about options for PCs as well.
Mac computers with OS X offer several built-in accessibility features, including:
- text-to-speech software (have your Mac read aloud to you!)
- dictation software for use with a variety of programs and applications
- Accessibility features for vision on Mac change your text size, cursor size, and more!
- VoiceOver, a screen-reader that allows users to navigate and access their computers using keyboard and voice commands
These features are available on most on-campus computers, including those located in the Academic Resource Center in the Dorothy Johansen House (DoJo).
