Library Testing Rooms
The testing rooms at Reed College offer a reduced-distraction testing environment for Reed students who are eligible to use these spaces as disability accommodations. Room L 148 has six individual testing spaces separated by dividers, while room L 144 is a private testing space.
Noise-reducing earmuffs and ear plugs are available for students’ use while in the testing rooms.
Computers and writing utensils are not available in the testing rooms. For printed exams, students will need to bring their own writing utensils. For digital exams, students will need to bring their own computer/device.
Location and restroom access
The testing rooms are located on the main level of the Library, situated along the east wall. To find the rooms, enter through the main entrance, go to the Circulation Desk, and take a left immediately after the Circulation Desk. Continue heading straight ahead until you reach the end of the South Stacks. The reduced-distraction room will be directly in front of you, and the private testing room is to the right of the reduced-distraction room.
The nearest restrooms, which are accessible and gender-inclusive, can be found at the other end of the South Stacks. To reach them, head back towards the main Library entrance, and you'll see the restrooms on your left.
Testing room reservations and availability
The Library testing rooms are available through reservation only, for use by students with DAR-approved accommodations. These rooms are not available for use on a drop-in basis or by students who are not approved for DAR accommodations.
Testing room reservations are booked through Conference & Events Planning (CEP), and reservations must be requested in advance by faculty/instructors.
Once faculty receive notice from DAR that a student is eligible for testing accommodations, they may email cep@reed.edu to request a reservation for a testing space. Depending on availability, CEP may book an empty classroom for use as a testing space, or they may assign a student to one of the 7 testing spaces in the Library testing rooms.
Faculty should note that the Library testing rooms are not proctored. Additional instructions regarding coordination of testing accommodations can be found in our Testing Accommodation Guidelines.
Instructions for students who are assigned to take an exam in a Library testing room
After your faculty have received an accommodation notification letter, be sure to communicate with your faculty at least 1 week prior to your exam regarding exam logistics (for example: testing time, location, where you will pick up and drop off the exam, etc). Additional instructions regarding coordination of testing accommodations can be found in our Testing Accommodation Guidelines.
If you receive notice from your instructor that you are scheduled to take an exam in one of the Library testing rooms, be sure to follow these instructions:
- Ensure you have received confirmation of your testing room reservation from your faculty. Your instructor should have let you know which Library room/space you are booked in (for example, L 148 Space B, or L 144).
- Arrive early to allow time for check-in.
- The testing rooms are locked and require a special swipe card in order to access them. When you arrive at the Library, go to the Circulation Desk and check out a Testing Room Swipe Card. Keep the swipe card with you while you take your exam, and take it with you if you use the restroom. Be sure to return the swipe card to the Circulation Desk once you have completed your exam.
- Computers are not available in the Library testing rooms. You will need to bring your own device if you will be taking your exam on a computer. If you will be taking a printed exam, bring your own writing utensil.
- Respect other students by minimizing disruptions when entering or exiting the room.
- Return the swipe card to the Library Circulation Desk once you have completed your exam.
Disposable earplugs are and noise-reducing earmuffs are available for your use while in the testing room. You may keep the disposable earplugs, but please do NOT remove the noise-reducing earmuffs from the testing room.
