Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Mathematics

The Reed College Mathematics & Statistics Department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in mathematics, to begin August 2025. Applicants should have completed their PhD dissertation in mathematics or applied mathematics by time of appointment.  An Equal Opportunity Employer, Reed values diversity and encourages applications from members of underrepresented groups.

Applications must be submitted through the MathJobs.org website (https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/list/24765) and should include:

  • a cover letter addressing how your teaching and scholarship are suited to the liberal arts college environment,
  • a CV,
  • a teaching statement,
  • a research statement, and
  • three letters of recommendation, at least one of which addresses teaching.

We are seeking candidates with a strong research program who are able to effectively engage undergraduates from a wide range of backgrounds in research. As a small department, we are particularly interested in applications from candidates whose research interests complement rather than duplicate those of current faculty members.

The successful candidate is expected to teach the equivalent of five semester courses over the academic year and to supervise senior theses. The senior thesis is a cornerstone of the Reed College academic experience. It is a year-long project, required of every student, which culminates in a written document and an oral defense.  Applicants are encouraged to suggest potential thesis projects and to describe their past experience mentoring student research.

Reed College is a community that values diversity and inclusive educational practices as essential to the excellence of our academic program; see the College's diversity and anti-racism statements (http://www.reed.edu/diversity/). Within your application materials, please indicate the ways in which your past and current teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and/or community service has supported these values.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but they should be received by October 20, 2024 to guarantee full consideration.  Any questions may be directed to the chair of the search committee, Luda Korobenko, at korobenko@reed.edu.

Deadline: by October 20, 2024 to guarantee full consideration
