Software Help

This page provides general information about various software used at Reed by students, faculty, and staff. While this list is not exhaustive, it does include links to some of the most commonly used software.

Productivity Software

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) is automatically installed on Reed-owned computers. Current students, faculty, and staff are also able to install Office on a personal Windows or Mac computer.
  • Google Apps is used for Email, Calendar, Docs/Drive, and Groups
  • Zoom allows you to schedule or host online videoconference meetings, and present information by sharing your screen. Meetings can also be recorded and shared for later viewing. Faculty and staff can make and receive phone calls through the Zoom app on a computer or mobile device.
  • Adobe Software
  • SensusAccess - online conversion tool. Need to convert a PDF to an editable Word doc? Or convert other file types to an accessible format? SensusAccess converts documents into a range of alternate and accessible formats

Academic Software

Some of Reed's academic software used in courses is available for students to install on a personal computer.  For a comprehensive list, please visit downloads.reed.edu. Due to licensing restrictions, some software may only work while on campus. In other cases, the software may be accessed remotely through the Virtual Computer Lab.

Many of the academic software used in classes is available 24/7 through a web browser.

  • For Administrative Staff: Some administrative systems such as Banner, Fileshares, and Microsoft Remote Desktop can be accessed remotely from your Reed computer when connected the VPN.
  • For Faculty and Students: Upon request, some faculty research or lab computers may be accessible through the VPN. Students and faculty must submit a request to use the VPN.
