Community Engagement Opportunities

Programs

Reed College partners with Portland-area community members and organizations to enrich scholarship, research, and creative activity; foster innovative teaching and learning; and develop educated and engaged citizens in service to our local and surrounding communities.

Research Reactor Tours

We offer free in-person tours and labs to educational groups. The tours cover the basics of reactor physics, our operator training program, and the research we do. They can be tailored for age groups and levels of education; the minimum age for tours and labs is 10 years old.

Zine Fest: a Community Event

The Reed College library hosted a Zine Fest to celebrate independent publishing, community building, and zine making in March 2024. The one-day festival featured zinesters from both the local community and Reed, workshops, and a keynote by special guest James Spooner (The High Desert, Black Punk Now, and the Afro-Punk). Stay tuned for updates about Reed Zine Fest 2025.

Office for Institutional Diversity

The Office for Institutional Diversity provides opportunities to engage in meaningful conversations, special programming, and workshops that are mutually beneficial for Reed students, local community members, and community organizations.

Office of Sustainability

Reed's Office of Sustainability provides programming focused on responsible stewardship of the campus environment—with the goal of understanding how our actions and decisions impact our city, our region, and our planet.

Community Engagement Committee

The Community Engagement Committee (CEC) supports Reed community members in active engagement with issues of community import within the curriculum, campus, and broader community. In particular, the CEC seeks to support community-engaged initiatives by faculty and students.
