TriMet

TriMet’s electronic fare system, Hop Fastpass, offers easy boarding, lost-card protection, and reduces paper waste. Hop cards work on all TriMet buses, MAX light rail, WES Commuter Rail, Portland Streetcar, and C-TRAN services.

Reed students, faculty, and staff can purchase discounted public transit passes at the cashier’s window on the third floor of Eliot Hall. The window is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m.

Monthly Bus Passes

College Subsidy Program

The college subsidizes half the cost of monthly adult passes. TriMet monthly passes may be purchased, with a valid Reed ID, at the cashier window in Eliot. The prices for current Reed students, staff, and faculty are as follows:

  • Adult: $50
  • Youth: $28

Students who are living or working on campus are eligible for the subsidy during the summer.

Purchase a Bus Pass

We encourage you to register your Hop card so you can report if it is lost or stolen. Each month we will add an electronic monthly pass to your Hop card at the time of purchase for the above stated costs.

You are required to tap your Hop card every time you board a bus or train, including when you transfer. Your tap is your proof of payment so be ready to show your Hop Card to a Fare Inspector when requested. There is no need to tap when exiting a transit vehicle. For more information, visit Hop Fastpass.

If you lose your Hop card, a replacement card can be purchased for $3 at the cashier’s window. The cashier can transfer your transit pass onto a replacement card.

Honored Citizen Fare Program

Current Reed students, faculty, and staff who qualify for and register for an Honored Citizen bus pass (Hop Card) can have the $28 monthly pass fully subsidized by Reed.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must:

  • Be between 18 and 64 years old
  • Be an Oregon resident (students can use proof of their local address or residence hall)
  • Have a qualifying income (as designated by TriMet)

You automatically qualify if you are enrolled in one of the following programs: Oregon Health Plan (OHP), SNAP, Energy Assistance (LIHEAP, OEAP, WAP), Free/Reduced Lunch, HUD Assistance, TANF, or Employment Daycare (ERDC).

You can also qualify for an honored citizen pass if you are a senior (65+), a Medicare beneficiary, or have a physical or mental disability.

If you don’t qualify, you can purchase a subsidized monthly adult pass from the cashier’s window.

TriMet Hop Tickets

You can purchase 2 ½ hour and 1-day Hop Tickets (paper tickets with electronics inside) at Reed’s bookstore. When you first tap an unvalidated ticket, the fare is activated and the time remaining on your ticket is displayed on the Hop Reader.
