We look forward to welcoming you at New Student Orientation, which will take place on January 23–24, 2025. Orientation is required for all incoming students.
For students who will be living on campus, you are welcome to move in between Friday, January 12, and Monday, January 15. While there is no required Orientation programming during that time, we invite you to check out Paideia, Reed's annual festival of learning.
Please note that over the holiday weekend, January 18–20, there will be limited food and staff services on campus. If you arrive before move-in on January 22, here are some of Reed's resources on campus and the Winter Break Guide for students.

Wednesday, January 22

8 a.m.–5 p.m. | New Student Check-In and Move-In** New students living on campus can move in after 8 a.m. Check-in is at the Residence Life offices at 28 West. Share your arrival information here. |
5:30–7 p.m. | New Student Welcome Dinner Join us for an optional group dinner in the Aspen Multipurpose Room. You can eat there or grab and go! You will meet the Transfer and Non-Traditional Student Coordinator. |

9:30–10 a.m. | Getting to Know You** To start the day off, the Orientation Program Coordinator will lead an icebreaker. |
10–10:30 a.m. | Registration Process Overview* Learn about the registration process as the Associate Registrar staff member, Martha Schlitt, demonstrates how to use SOLAR. After, Ben Bradley, Senior Assistant Registrar, will answer questions about transfer students. |
10:30 a.m.–noon | Meet with your Advisor and Registration time* You will be sent instructions about when and where to meet your academic adviser via email prior to this session. |
noon–1:30 p.m. | Lunch and Thriving in Reed's Academic Culture** An introduction to Reed’s unique academic culture. Learn about our grading system, conference participation, and individual strategies for academic success. Lunch will be provided. |
1:30–2:30 p.m. | Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Reed & Student Engagement, Equity, and Direct Service** In this session, you will learn about the diversity of experiences and identities in Reed’s incoming class and begin to build an inclusive community with each other. We will be discussing concepts of power, privilege, and identity and practicing skills for authentically engaging across differences. |
2:30–2:45 p.m. | Debrief with the Transfer and Non Traditional Coordinator Students are welcome to chat with their transfer and non-traditional student coordinator after the first day of Orientation. This is an optional session to get to know one another more and ask any questions. |
2:45 p.m. | Campus Tour Familiarize yourself with your new home! This is an optional campus tour led by your transfer and non-traditional student coordinator who will point out favorite Reedie spots. |
5 p.m. | Dinner—Location TBD Join us for an optional group dinner or grab-and-go in the Student Center! |

9:30–10:30 a.m. | SHARE and Title IX** This session will discuss consent culture and the Title IX processes and procedures at Reed College with the Sexual Health, Advocacy, and Relationship Education Director L. Mattson and Title IX Coordinator Christy Martin. |

10:45–11:30 a.m. | Community Care: Alcohol and Other Drug Policy** In this session, you will be introduced to the nuts and bolts of harm reduction and policies related to alcohol and other drug (AOD) use at Reed. You'll learn about the norms and expectations of all community members, as well as resources for students. |
11:30–11:45 a.m. | Wrap Up/Last Questions with TNT Coordaintor Thank you for engaging with New Stuent Orientation! This is an optional session to ask any remaining questions of our TNT coordinator. |
11:45 a.m. | Lunch in Commons Check out the lunch options in the Commons. |
Noon–1:30 p.m. | Lunch with International Student Services** Join the International Student Services (ISS) staff and other international Reedies for a lunch off campus following our information session. We’ll walk to a favorite spot near campus and will treat you to lunch. Bring a warm coat and comfortable walking shoes. Distance is ~2 km round trip. |
1–3 p.m. | International Student Orientation**—Location TBD Meet with International Student Services (ISS) staff to learn about our support and programs and receive important information about your international student status.—Bring your passport, I-20 or DS-2019, and any questions that you have about getting started at Reed. |
