Communications and Reminders from Reed

International Student Orientation: Important Information

Dear International Student,

Greetings from sunny Portland! We are so excited to welcome you to the international student community at Reed.

We are busy finalizing International Student Orientation (ISO) and preparing for what we aim to be a fun and informative several days. The information below will help you prepare for your arrival.

ISO Pre-Arrival Module

If you are attending Reed on an F-1 or J-1 visa, you must complete a pre-arrival Orientation module  through the Homebase platform. You will receive an invitation email from Homebase shortly with login instructions. The module will cover essential information related to your visa status in the U.S. Please complete the module at your convenience but prior to arriving on campus in August.

Arriving on Campus

If you have not already done so, please schedule your travel plans and sign up for a move-in time slot so that you arrive on campus on August 22. Due to campus staffing capacity, this is the earliest that you will be able to move into your residence hall. A number of local accommodations offer discounts to the Reed community. Contact us if you need assistance with a place to stay before August 22.

If you signed up to join the International Friendship Program, you may wish to reach out to your local host to ask if they are available to meet you at the airport and bring you to Reed. Students will be connected with hosts at the end of July.

Additionally, International Student Services can assist in arranging transportation from the Portland International Airport (PDX) to campus on August 22 or 23. You must request airport transportation no later than August 18.

InterConnect Mentors

Watch for an email soon from your InterConnect Mentor. The InterConnect program seeks to provide support for students as they transition to Reed and the U.S. Your mentor (a returning student) will contact you over the summer, greet you once you arrive on campus for International Student Orientation, and guide you throughout the program. Additionally, this person will serve as a resource for you throughout your first semester at Reed.

The InterConnect Mentors are a fantastic group, and they are excited to meet you and welcome you to campus! We invite you to read more about the program and meet our mentors.

International Friendship Program

If you opted in to being matched with a local host from the International Friendship Program (IFP), please expect to receive their contact information by the end of July. You should reach out to your IFP host family before departing for Portland. They are eager to meet you and support your arrival to Reed!

ISO Activities

We are putting the final touches on International Student Orientation and will share a more detailed schedule in August. Until then, you can visit our website for a broad overview of events.

Registrants for ISO will continue to receive pre-arrival communication from International Student Services and their InterConnect Mentor.

Please let us know if you have any questions as you prepare for Reed!

Warm regards,

Gwen, Fiona, and the InterConnect Mentors
