Parents of new Reedies are supported during their important transition by alumni & parent relations. This office provides alumni and parent programs and offers services and information that promote and strengthen ties among the college and its alumni, providing the students—who made Reed what is today—an active role in the present and future of the college. Serving the greater Reed community, the office encourages support of the college through good will, volunteer service, and financial giving.
The first offering we have scheduled is a Parent Orientation that takes place during New Reedie Orientation. Please plan to join us!
Tuesday & Wednesday, August 26 & 27
We encourage all parents to attend Orientation with their student. Tuesday and Wednesday are designed for you to learn about Reed and to help your student settle in. There are many activities designed just for you. Check out the Parent Orientation events on the schedule page.
Parent Orientation Registration
The parent orientation registration form is now closed. If you still would like to register, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or show up at parent orientation registration in Kaul Auditorium on move-in day. We will be happy to sign you up in person.
Humanities 110 for Parents: Explore the Odyssey
As part of the Parent Orientation, you can attend the kind of humanities conference that your student will experience throughout the year. Jay Dickson, Professor, English & Humanities, will speak on The Iliad as part of the convocation ceremony, Wednesday, August 27. On Wednesday afternoon, pre-registered parents will gather in small groups with professors to discuss the reading material and lecture. We encourage you to view more information and register.
When You Arrive at Reed
Parents, remember that you and your child need to check in separately in Kaul Auditorium on your designated check in day. View a map of campus (PDF) to find your way. If you are driving to campus, park in the west lot to access Kaul.
Explore the Pacific Northwest
Arriving early to drop off your child for the SEEDS, outdoor, or Peer Mentor Program Odysseys? See what the Pacific Northwest has to offer: from the mountains to the desert to the coast, and everything in between (including shopping without sales tax in Oregon!) Go to the Portland Oregon Visitors Association to find places to explore and to plan your trip. Need more suggestions? Stop by the parent lounge in Kaul Auditorium on Friday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Parents and families dropping off students on Friday, August 22, are encouraged to attend a reception at 4:30 p.m. in Kaul Auditorium's Gray lounge, where they can meet student services staff and take a break from unpacking. This reception may be especially helpful for parents who are not able to stay in Portland for the Parent Orientation.
Plan Ahead: Parent & Family Weekend
Parent & Family Weekend is a chance to experience a day in the life of your Reedie by attending classes and get a glimpse of the details common to the Reed experience. Activities begin Friday, November 7, and conclude Saturday afternoon, November 8. Online registration will be available in late August.
