Orientation odysseys provide an opportunity to explore the Pacific Northwest, to challenge yourself, and to build lasting relationships. While Orientation odysseys are optional, we highly recommend that you attend one to further enrich your Orientation experience. Options include outdoor trips, a community service opportunity, a program specifically for international students, and a retreat focused on peer mentoring. All odysseys require preregistration and they fill up fast, so register now!
Please note that the dates for outdoor, SEEDS, and Peer Mentor Program odysseys overlap with each other, and both overlap with the international orientation odyssey. This means that you cannot participate in more than one program. International students can choose to a) participate in the international orientation odyssety (which is free of charge), b) sign up for another odyssey, or c) just participate in the standard New Reedie Orientation.
Moving into Your Room
If you participate in an odyssey, you will be able to move into your residence hall room on Friday, August 23. Please be considerate of your new roommate when you arrive for your trip, especially if he or she is not arriving early. Do not completely unpack and settle in until you have negotiated room arrangements. Please arrive with the items that you will need for your trip packed separately from the items that you wish to leave at Reed. You are welcome to store the items that you won’t need on your trip in your room.
In order to make the odysseys as safe and enjoyable as possible, drugs and alcohol are not permitted. Due to high-risk fire conditions in the fall, smoking is not allowed during the outdoor odysseys.
Odyssey Information for Parents
Parents who come to campus to drop off their new Reedies for an odyssey are encouraged to attend a student services reception Friday, August 23, at 4:30 p.m. in Gray lounge, Kaul Auditorium. Parents should plan on saying good-bye to their children after the reception and before they head to dinner.
