Reed College Orientation 2015

What to Bring

Moving in

Here are some ideas to help you prepare for your big move and to make you feel at home when you get here. If you forget something, Reed’s own bookstore stocks many essential items for your room, too. There are a lot of shopping areas relatively close to Reed as well. Shuttles to stores such as Fred Meyer and Target will be offered over the weekend during New Reedie Orientation.

Reed provides:

  • Bed (extra-long twin)
  • Desk with chair
  • Dresser
  • Shelves
  • Overhead light
  • Window coverings
  • Closet or wardrobe
  • Ethernet connection

(See the housing contract for more details.)

Portland weather in summer varies from warm to hot, 70s to 90s. Outside of July and August, there is plenty of drizzle; it’s very conducive to studying, with moderate temperatures and occasional snow.

A couple of specific suggestions:

  • Flip-flops and a bathrobe or large towel for walking from your room to the shower
  • Waterproof shoes and coat with a hood
