Community Safety Shift Supervisor   

Reed College is recruiting qualified candidates for Community Safety Shift Supervisor. This regular full-time position serves as a supervisor for the assigned shift, in addition to performing regular Community Safety Officer duties.  Work schedule is evenings/nights to include at least one weekend shift per week. The Shift Supervisor is the primary Community Safety Officer on an assigned shift and is responsible for communicating shift information, resolving shift problems as they arise, supervising and evaluating the work of assigned staff, and training new employees. Officer duties also include conducting routine foot and vehicle patrol on campus, reporting incidents and safety/security hazards to appropriate officials, responding to and taking appropriate action in the event of a crime, fire, or medical emergency, and providing information and assistance to students, faculty, staff and the general public.

Well-qualified candidates will have experience with or ability to work in a non-traditional campus security role where creative problem solving, collaboration and relationship building are emphasized over a traditional enforcement model.  Candidates must have strong interpersonal communication skills and be highly skilled in finding creative and timely solutions in diffusing tense, and/or stressful situations. Must have excellent documentation and report writing skills; have proven ability to work as an effective team member with co-workers combined with the ability to work under general supervision. Must have a strong sense of commitment to excellent customer service and a prior background in interpretation and application of guidelines, rules, policies or laws for area of responsibility.

Qualifications: Must have high school diploma and three years experience in community safety or related field; plus three years of supervisory or management experience, or any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job. Must have valid drivers license and ability to pass a comprehensive 10 year criminal background check. A physical exam is required prior to employment and after a conditional offer for employment has been made.  CPR, AED, First Aid and/or current DPSST certification is a plus.
