Symantec AntiVirus at Reed
Every Reed community member has free access to Symantec AntiVirus, an excellent virus scanner for Windows and Macintosh.
If you already have an antivirus software on your new computer, it's likely to be a trial version that will expire soon. Most consumer versions make you pay for a new subscription every year, while our version never expires! You're free to use it as long as you are at Reed.
It is very important that you have an up-to-date antivirus software; for Windows users it is a requirement in order to use the Reed network. It is a good idea for Mac users too - while there aren't any major viruses for Mac OS X yet, Symantec AntiVirus will protect your computer against MS Word macro viruses, and can also stop you from accidentally passing on viruses to your Windows-user friends.
Reed has a license to install a copy of Symantec AntiVirus on each college owned computer.
In addition, each current student, staff and faculty member of Reed College may install one (1) copy of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition on a personally owned machine.
Note: When you leave Reed College (you graduate, or your employment ends) you must remove the copy of Symantec AntiVirus from your machine. (The College will take care of copies on college-owned machines.)
By downloading the software, you agree that you are a current Reed community member as described above and that you will remove your copy when your association with the college ends.
