Fall 2012 Freshman Admission Decisions

A Message From Keith Todd, Dean of Admission:

On March 27, Reed College admitted 954 students who applied during the Regular Decision process. Selecting an incoming class from such a strong pool of young people was an exhilarating but daunting task for the admission committee. Including Early Decision applicants, Reed has offered admission to 1,069 students from a pool of 3,131 applicants to the freshman class, for an admission rate of 34 percent. (Last year’s admission rate was 40 percent.) Our applicant pool increased by two percent this year, making our decisions particularly difficult. Admission results for transfer applicants will be announced in May.

I speak for the committee when conveying our excitement about the broad range of talents, the expressions of independent thought, and the fascinating personal qualities we found in the students we admitted. They attend school in 46 states, two U.S. territories, and 43 countries. We look forward to the contributions we are sure they will make to Reed’s vibrant campus life and the passionate intellectual discourse in our classrooms.

Admitted students are invited to visit campus throughout April, but especially during Reed Admit Days, April 16-17. The reply deadline for students admitted in Regular Decision is May 1.
